GUEST REVIEW
By BILL HANNA
You would think it would be easy to find a good slice of key lime pie on a three-day drive through the Florida Keys, but it's not as easy as you think. Oh, there are plenty of places advertising key lime this and key lime that. But many of these "Key Lime Factory" outlets that are found up and down the Keys seem to sell everything but pie. And when you do get a slice, it's nothing to write americanpieways.com about. But that made the slice Laura and I tried at the Green Turtle Inn all the more rewarding. Not too tart. Not too sweet, and drizzled in raspberry and kiwi sauce. Be warned this isn't a cheap slice of pie ($8!), and the Green Turtle Inn isn't some humble roadside bakery. This is a very nice restaurant with fresh seafood, pasta and other dishes that are worth the splurge and has received its share of acclaim on the Internet.
If you stumble in fresh off the water like we did, you will feel a little underdressed. But don't let that worry you; it is the laidback Keys after all. |
